In my exploration of finding "self " this summer, I have been trying out new media and styles.

I am currently working on a series of Abstracts in the encaustic style. I am almost ready to find a new venue to show these pieces.  Below is a sample of this new series.

I am using my own work as a reference point when starting  my pieces, so they are landscape inspired.  The technique uses pigment mixed with wax, then is fused together with a heat source.

This beautiful summer of such incredible weather has not found me outside painting!

Usually, when I am out painting, I am in harmony with nature, all my senses are filled and I am at peace. But what is going on now in our country has me wanting to use my art to give visual voice to stress the need for change to many social issues.

This became more clearly defined for me last night after listening to Ken Burns, documentary filmmaker, speak about his new series on the National Parks at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Ken Burns’ command of the English language, his ability to tell stories with visual description transported me to where he has been. He has inspired me to want to make more of a statement with my art.
